Welcome to
The Ballooning Society
of Pikes Peak
Welcome and thank you for your interest in Hot Air Ballooning
The Ballooning Society of Pikes Peak - BSOPP is a volunteer organization promoting the sport of Hot Air Ballooning in the Pikes Peak Region. We have student pilot, Private Pilot, and Commercial Pilot members along with the dedicated friends and family that make up our balloon flight crews.
When We Fly
From January thru November we have a scheduled monthly club fly on the third Saturday of each month, with time off in December. A variety of balloonists gather to have fun, fly balloons and enjoy each others company after the flights. This is a great time to be introduced to the sport and volunteer to become a crew member to a balloon.
Social Activities
During certain months we have social activities, tours and get togethers to network, spin stories about flying and learn from each others experiences. Check out the Activities for upcoming events and activities of the Club.
Learn to Fly
We also have a Hot Air Balloon Club balloon rental program where you can rent a balloon with a certified instructor and learn to fly. Check out the program.

Weather Matters!
Flying a Hot Air Balloon is completely dependent on wind speed and direction for all navigation. Wind blowing too fast or in the wrong direction means we may not fly. Also, winds blow at different speeds and in different directions as you get higher off the ground. Although these higher-altitude winds may not be visible from the ground, our pilots have tools to tell them regional wind conditions at all altitudes. Forecasts tell us in advance what winds might be and we check wind and weather right up to launch time. We ONLY fly when its safe. We prefer to launch when ground winds are under 8 mph. Launch time is usually just after sunrise. Will you join us?
